3.1 Conferences Attendance
- 1. March 9 to 14, 2014: Doctoral student Cong Zhang attended the 28th “Annual MSIT meeting, International Seminar on Heterogeneous Multi-component equilibria” held in Rinberg, Germany, and gave an oral presentation entitled "A recently developed thermodynamic database for cermets".
- 2. March 10 to 14, 2014: Doctoral student Weibing Zhang attended the 10th “International Conference on the Science of Hard Materials (ICSHM10)” held at the Grand Coral Beach Cancun Resort & Spa Cancun, Mexico, and gave an oral presentation entitled “Development of the thermodynamic and diffusion databases for gradient cemented carbides and its applications”.
- 3. April 15, 2014: Prof. Yong Du participated in the 4th Academic Committee Conference of Cemented Carbide State Key Laboratory” organized by Zhuzhou Cemented Carbide Group Co.,LTD, and gave an oral presentation about outlook on the development of cemented carbide.
- 4. April 19, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the discussion meeting on the progress of 973 project held at Northwestern Polytechnic University in Xi’an. He gave a brief introduction on the research plan, including the main science problem, research constants, best team organization and so on.
- 5. April 27-May 3, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the 41st International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) held in San Diego, USA, and gave an oral presentation entitled “Influence of Hf on the structure, thermal stability and oxidation resistance of Ti-Al-N coatings”.
- 6. May 31, 2014: Prof. Yong Du and Prof. Lijun Zhang attended the 2014 APDIC annual conference (Alloy Phase Diagram International Commission). Prof. Lijun Zhang was invited to give an oral presentation entitled "CALPHAD and phase-field model with finite interface dissipation: A truly seamless liaison".
- 7. June 1-6, 2014: All the group members attended the CALPHAD XLIII international conference held in Changsha, China. Prof. Yong Du served as the Chairman of CALPHAD XLIII. Prof. Lijun Zhang gave an oral presentation entitled "Revisiting the phenomenological model for effect of chemical ordering on diffusion". - 8. June 15-19, 2014: Prof. Yong Du and doctoral student Xiong Yang attended the 2014 International conference on Al alloys (ICAA14)held in Trondheim, Norway. Prof. Yong Du gave an oral presentation entitled “A New Diffusivity Database for Multi-component Al Alloy: Focusing on Ternary Systems and Its Effecton Microstructure Evolution During Solidification”, and doctoral student Xiong Yang gave an oral presentation entitled “Phase-field modeling of solute trapping in a Al-Sn alloy during rapid solidification”.
- 9. June 20-22, 2014: Dr. Jianchuan Wang attended the 7thInternational discussion conference on nanoscience and new energy materials held in Nanjing and gave an oral presentation entitled “Ca-decorated Boron Sheet:A Potential Hydrogen Storage Medium” and a poster presentation entitled “Intrinsic Defects in Ammonia Borane: Density Functional Theory Calculations Augmented with vander Waals Correction”.
- 10. July 13 to 16, 2014: Doctoral student Jinghua Xin and Master student Pengfei Ou attended the 13rd International Conference on Condensed Matter Theory and Computational Materials Science, held in Chengdu, China. Doctoral student Jinghua Xin gave an oral presentation entitled "The influence of the vacancies in the second surface of Mg (0001) on the hydrogenation process", and master student Pengfei Ou gave a poster entitled “Effects of alloying element on structural, elastic and electronic properties of TiN based nitrides”.
- 11. July 19 to 20, 2014: The 2014 "Central South University - National University of Defense Technology - Zhuzhou Cemented Carbide Cutting Tools Co., Ltd - State key Laboratory of Cemented Carbides" Multilateral Conference was organized in our research group. Prof. Yong Du and all the other members attended this conference, and gave presentations.
- 12. July 20 to 21, 2014: Prof. Yong Du was invited to attend the Academician Forum on Aeronautical Materials organized by Avic Bejing institute of aeronautical materials, and gave anoral presentation entitled ”Establishment of thermodynamic and thermal physical property database of the aluminum alloy and its applications”.
- 13. July 28 to 30, 2014: Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Lijun Zhang, Associate Professor Shuhong Liu, Dr. Jianchuan Wang and master student Ming Wei attended 2014Sino-German CooperationGroup “Microstructure in Al alloys” BilateralSymposium, and gave the oral presentations entitled “Quantitative characterization of the microstructural evolution in A6111 Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy during homogenization and ageing”, “A Pragmatic method to determine the composition-dependent interdiffusion coefficients in ternary systems by using a single diffusion”, “Experimental investigation and thermodynamic modeling of the Co-Hf system”, “Intrinsic defects in ammonia borance: density functional theory calculations augmented with van der Waals correction” and “Quantitative phase-field simulation of microstructure evolutionin A2214 alloy during solidification by coupling with CALPHAD database”, respectively.
- 14. August 26 to 29, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the 3rd International Conference on Phase-Field Method organized in USA and gave an oral presentation entitled “Thermodynamic and kinetic databases of cemented carbides and their application to phase field simulation of microstructure evolution in cemented carbides during sintering” and a poster presentation entitled “Effect of temperature gradient on microstructure evolution in Ni-Al-Cr bond coat/substrate systems: a phase-field study”.
- 15. September 7 to 11, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the 14thThermodynamics of Alloys seminar (TOFA 2014) held in Brno, Czech Republic and gave an oral presentation entitled “Thermodynamic and kinetic databases of cemented carbides and their applications to phase field simulation of microstructure during sintering”.
- 16. September 19 to 22, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended 2014 High-level Forum on the International Development Trend of New Materials held in Xi'an and gave an invited oral presentation entitled “Thermodynamics and thermophysical properties as well as microstructure characterization during solidification”.
- 17. October 9 to 11, 2014: Doctoral student Weibing Zhang and Na Li and master student Lingqing He attended the 11th national conference on cemented carbide held in Yinchuan, China and gave poster presentations entitled “Experimental investigation and simulationof the effect of nitrogen pressureon formationof fcc-free surface layers in WC-Ti(C,N)-Co cemented carbides”, "Effect of carbon content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra-fine WC-10%Co-0.5%Ta cemented carbides”, and “Investigations on the structural, mechanical and thermal properties of Cr1-xAlxN coatings”, respectively.
- 18. October 17 to 19, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the 17th National Symposium on Chemical Thermodynamics and Thermal analysis held in Hangzhou, China and presented one plenary lecture entitled "Thermodynamic/diffusion databases for cemented carbide and hard coating as well as their Integrated Computational Materials Engineering”.
- 19. October 25 to 28, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the second international union of Materials research societies: International conference of young researchers on advanced materials held in Haikou, China and presented one invited talk entitled “Thermodynamic and mechanical properties of Ti-Al-(Zr, Hf)-N Hard Coating Systems: First-principle calculations and experiment”.
- 20. November 1 to 2, 2014: Prof. Yong Du attended the Forum on “the Challenging Science Problems on Aircraft Engine Thermal Barrier Coating Technology and Application” organized by the Engineering and Materials Science department of Bejing National Natural Science Fund Committee and Policy Bureau, and gave an oral presentation entitled " the challenging science problem on aircraft engine thermal barrier coating technology and application".
- 21. November 6 to 7, 2014: Dr. Kai Li attended “2014 Forum on the Progress and Application of Atom Probe Three dimension Analysis Technology” organized by Nanjing University of Science and Technology and CAMECA company and gave an oral presentation entitled “Microstructure characterization on the process of solidification, solid solution and aging of Al alloy”.
3.2Scientific Visits
1. January 16 to 18, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du and Dr. Kai Li, Prof. Dominique Schryvers from University of Antwerpen, Belgium visited our group and joined the Ph. D dissertation defense of Kai Li.
2. February 24 to March 23, 2014: Upon the invitation of Thermo-Calc Software AB in Sweden, Prof. Lijun Zhang visited TCSAB, and performed cooperation research.
3. April 1 to June 6, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, doctoral student Adam Vegh from the University of Miskolc, Hungary visited our group and performed corporative research.
4. April7, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Shuxin Bai and his colleagues from National University of Defense Technology visited our group.
5. April16, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Shuxin Bai, Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Lijun Zhang, Associated Prof. Shuhong Liu, Associated Prof. Yi Kong and Dr. Kai Li visit Prof. Bai' group at National University of Defense Technology.
6. May 6 to June 7, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Bosse Sundman from KTH, Sweden visited our group and guided the Ph. D and master students in our group on thermodynamic assessment, computational kinetics and phase-field simulation. During the visit, two joint papers were published in international journals.
7. May 19 to June 7, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, doctoral student Matthias Stratmann from Ruhr-University Bochum, German visited our group and performed corporative research in our group.
8. May 25 to June 7, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, doctoral student Irina Roslyakova from Ruhr-University Bochum, German visited our group and performed corporative research in our group.
10. June 23 to 27, 2014: Under the support of the STT Scholarship, Dr. Dandan Huang attended the Summer School for Advanced Thermodynamic Assessments at Saclay, France.
11. Jun. 27 to Jul. 1, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, Dr. Shunli Shang from the Pennsylvania State University, USA visited our group and performed the corporative research in our group.
12. July to August 2014, Associated Prof. Yi Kong performed a two-month scientific visit in the City University of Hong Kong.
13. July 27 to 30, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Ingo Steinbach, Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Lijun Zhang, Assistant Prof. Shuhong Liu, Dr. Jianchuan Wang, and master student Ming Wei attended the 2014 Sino-German Cooperation Group “Microstructure in Al alloys” Bilateral Symposium held in Bochum, German, and visited Prof. Steinbach's research group. After that, Prof. Lijun Zhang worked in Ruhr-University Bochum for two weeks.
14. October 2, 2014: Prof. Pizhi Zhao from Suzhou Institute for Nonferrous Metals Reserach, China visited our group, and gave a presentation entitled "Research and development of advanced aluminum alloy plates for new energy vehicles".
15. October 22, 2014: Prof. Chuang Dong from Dalin University of Technology, China visited our group, and gave a presentation entitled "Source of industrial alloy compositions".
16. November 5 to 7, 2014: Dr. Kai Li participated in the APT Forum in Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and visited the group of Prof. Gang Sha upon the invitation.
17. November 26 to December 1, 2014, Prof. D. Živković and Dr. L. Balanović from Technical Faculty in Bor University of Belgrade, Serbia visited our group and gave presentations on “Research of advanced ecological multicomponent metal systems and nanostructured materials” and “Introduction on Journal of Mining and Metallurgy B”, respectively.
18. November 9 to December 15, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, Prof. Bosse Sundman from KTH, Sweden visited our group. During his visit, Prof. Sundman guided the Ph. D and master students on thermodynamic assessment.
19. November19, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Yong Du, Dr. Xiaoming Yuan from Australian National University visited our group and gave a presentation entitled “Growth of III-V Antimonide Nanowire and Heterostructure”.
20. December 8 to 14, 2014: Upon the invitation of Prof. Lijun Zhang, Dr. Ming Chen from Technical University of Denmark visited our group and gave a presentation entitled “Application of the CALPHAD method in solid oxide cell research”.
21. December 11, 2014 to January 1, 2015: Upon the invitation of Prof. Lijun Zhang, Dr. Shihuai Zhou from Ames Laboratory at Iowa State, USA visited our group and gave a presentation entitled “Energetic analysis of nonequilibrium phase transformations”.
22. December 20, 2014: Upon the invitation of Dr. Kai Li, Assistant Prof. Jian Zhang from Xian jiaotong University visited our group.
